Maia Wentland studied social psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel). She holds a degree from the Economy and Finance section of the Institute of Political Studies in Paris (FR), as well as from the Computer Science Departement of the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI, FR). She got her Ph.D. in Informatics and Management from the University of Lausanne (School of Management and Economics, Lausanne, CH).
She formerly held the position of business counsellor at the Banque Nationale de Paris Headquarter in Paris (FR) where she acted as consultant in risk management mainly in energy related areas. After having started and sold Evalog, her own company specialized in developing bank and finance expert systems applications, she became Technical Director of COROM
(Paris, FR), a Human Ressources Consulting company. Concurrently, she has been Editor of the Artificial Intelligence Journal.
Since 1989, she has been working at the University of Lausanne first as an assistant, then became assistant professor and is full professor since 1996. Her research is mainly focused on intelligent decision systems, knowledge management and open and distance learning. Maia Wentland was elected twice (1999 and 2003) vice-president of the University of Lausanne with the portfolio of Finance,Information Technology and Statistics. In the year 2000, she became active as member of the Swiss National Scientific Foundation for a period a 4 years (until 2004).
She is vice-president of the Swiss Virtual Campus, president of Foundations’ Council of the Opéra de Lausanne and Cluster Versus Cancer , member of the boards of BOBST, ORIPH (Organisation romande pourl’intégration professionnelle des personnes handicapées) and CARITAS Vaud. She is a member of numerous scientific,program and lecture committees and of IEEE and ACM.
